As we endure the dog days of summer, we are now dealing with drought-like conditions here in the Township and the region.
The Fire Marshal asks all of us to be extra careful when smoking or burning during this time. These extra hot days and lack of rain have provided strong conditions for fires to start and escalate very rapidly.
Special attention should be taken when extinguishing smoking materials, especially around dry grass, mulched areas, and potted plants.
Always use appropriate containers to dispose of the materials properly. If you choose to use your chiminea or fire pit, it is very important to have screen covers to prevent sparks and ash from leaving the device. Always have a garden hose close by and in the “on” position, as well. As Ben Franklin once said, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
