At the 2019 Annual Awards Program of the Eastern Pennsylvania Water Pollution Control Operators Association (EPWPCOA), the Whitpain Township Public Works Sewer Division was recognized for Safety, Operation/Maintenance and Individual Service Awards.
The Collection Systems Safety Award recognizes facilities/systems which have demonstrated excellence in the development and implementation of safety programs, which the Township received due to its monthly safety inspections and monthly staff and safety meetings.
The Collection System Operations and Maintenance Award recognizes facilities for outstanding maintenance and operation of a wastewater collection system, which the Township received for its diligence in maintaining 150 miles of sanitary sewer piping and seven pump stations that discharge to four different treatment facilities outside of the Township.
The A.E. “Bud” Fricker Memorial Individual Service Award is given for outstanding service to the Association and the water pollution control field. Gus Belmont, hired in Whitpain in 1991, has introduced a massive inflow and infiltration (I&I) program, a comprehensive restaurant grease trap program, and created an intensive maintenance program for the collection system. Gus became President of the EPWPCOA in 2014 and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the EPWPCOA. He has successfully coordinated numerous full-day training sessions covering televising and cleaning of sewer lines, and I&I in the collection system.
Congratulations to Gus Belmont, Ron Fricker, Doug Taylor, Tom Albertson, Ed White, Rob Draper, and John Fantini for a job well done.
