[ARCHIVED] 2022 Preliminary Budget Holds Taxes Steady

Budget

The Board of Supervisors last night reviewed the Township’s 2022 preliminary budget.

The proposed budget keeps tax rates steady in 2022. The budget includes the replacement of the Pulaski Road Bridge, regional water quality enhancements and money for a variety of preliminary improvements to Mermaid Park to bring new utilities to the property and to further stabilize remaining structures on the site.

As part of the 2022 budget presentation, the Supervisors discussed an adjustment to the Earned Income Tax (EIT) as part of the 2023 Township budget. The current EIT for Whitpain residents is 1 percent, which is split between the Township and Wissahickon School District.

The increase to the EIT would be used to help pay down debt from open space acquisition and for open space maintenance. Any increase to the EIT would have to be approved by voters in a referendum before it could go into effect.

The Supervisors will continue discussion of the preliminary budget on November 10.
