Mermaid Park's Inclusive Playground Progressing

Work continues on the new inclusive playground at Mermaid Park. 

Whitpain Public Works crews are completing most of the site work and a separate contractor is installing the playground equipment and safety surfaces. 

The park is comprised of three nature-based “pods,” each offering a variety of sensory, physical and educational experiences for users. So far, crews have installed pod one, which is the largest of the three pods. Work has commenced on pod three while pod two remains in its early stages. Along with these improvements, additional parking will be added.

Beyond completing the pods, crews must still pave walkways between the pods and add much-needed landscaping during the fall planting season.

Most of the park is open and accessible during construction, but park users are asked to avoid the work area as the playground remains under construction. 

As with any project, there can be unforeseen delays, but if weather conditions remain favorable, the new playground should be completed by the end of the year. 

The project is partially funded by a PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) grant.
