Annual
Arbor Day Beautification
Program
Since
1995, the Shade Tree Commission has sponsored an annual Arbor Day
Beautification Program for the Township's resident homeowners. Through
this program the Commission has distributed over 5,500 trees to Whitpain
residents in return for their commitment to plant and care for these
trees. Participation is free; all costs and expenses are paid by the Shade
Tree Commission. This annual Beautification Program, which celebrated
its sixteenth anniversary in 2010, has helped Whitpain Township earn
Arbor Day Foundation's Tree City USA status for fifteen consecutive years
and their Growth Award for eleven straight years. In 2009, Whitpain
Township was designated a Tree City USA Sterling Community, becoming only
the eighth community in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to achieve this
distinction.
Next
year's program will be held in May 2011. Please return to this
site early next year for additional details and information on how to
participate in Whitpain Township's annual Arbor Day Beautification
Program.
Residents
line up for the 16th annual Arbor Day Beautification Program,
which was held on May 2, 2010.
Over 425 trees were distributed to nearly 150
Whitpain
Township
residents.
Shade Tree Commission volunteers stage
the 425-trees that were distributed to Whitpain Township residents. This
year's program offered participants a selection of various species of
ten-foot bare root shade trees and several types of evergreens.
Volunteer Dave Knies of Blue Bell
inspects the bare-root trees that were distributed free to Township
residents. Each resident received up to three trees, mulch and planting
instructions.
Potted
trees, in this case, Green Giant Arborvitaes, were also distributed to
residents.
These
potted Leyland Cypress were also part of the program.
